St Vincent de Paul Society [SVDP] & Their Ministries
Saint Vincent de Paul Society . . . Catholic charitable organization providing food and other basic needs to the poor. SVDP also provides a wide array of programs that benefit both the poor and the parish at large. Many of the ministries, etc., described here are a direct or indirect outreach of the SVDP Society here at Our Lady of Good Hope. Angel Giving Tree . . . [SVDP] Annual Advent opportunity to give to the poor. Items are listed on paper angels and placed on the tree outside the SVDP office. Parishioners take an angel and supply the item listed. Contact: SVDP office @ 485-6625.
Emergency Help . . . [SVDP] Reaching out in many ways to address the emergency needs of individuals and families in the community with food, shelter, utilities and clothing. Contact: SVDP office @ 485-6625.
Food Pantry . . . [SVDP] Food is donated by parishioners and is distributed by SVDP according to the standards of the society. Volunteers are needed to stock the shelves. The list of needed items is published in the bulletin each week. The office and pantry is located just inside the main church doors. The office is open Mondays & Thursdays from 11 am to 1 pm, Mondays 6-8pm, and other times by appointment. Contact: SVDP office @ 485-6625.
Healthcare Aids … [SVDP/HH] Items such as wheelchairs, walkers, canes, crutches, and a bath chair/stool available for loan. Contact: Karen Roberts (current president) @ SVDP office 485-6625
Parish Prayer Line . . . [SVDP] Over 200 parishioners involved with praying for specific needs of individuals & families. Prayer line is updated twice a week and sent out via e-mail as well as posted on the parish web site. Two telephone lines. “Emergency” prayer lines go out as necessary. Contact: Sharon Garrett
Project Help . . . [SVDP] A collection of nickels, dimes, quarters, pennies and dollars. Usually held the second weekend of the month during each Holy Mass. All of the money goes to our SVDP to help in their outreach to the poor. No contact required.
Sarah’s Suppers . . . [SVDP/HH] Meals provided to families in a temporary situation of need (such as a birth, death or serious illness in the family). Contact: Joan Nern @ 471-9199.
Welcome Ministry . . . [SVDP] This ministry welcomes the newest members of Our Lady of Good Hope Parish with a friendly phone call, a welcome table at Coffee and Donuts each month after mass, and a packet of information including a free gift from the parish. Contact: Debi @ parish office x100.
